Triggers: automations that route work to the right person

Triggers got three rounds of upgrades in 2025. By August they could hand reps a task with the email already written.

What it actually does

A trigger watches for a change, like an opportunity moving to a new stage, and then does something: adds a prospect to a sequence, creates a task or updates a field.

In 2025 triggers got proper operators for custom fields and relative dates, the option to give work to the account or opportunity owner, and templates and AI personalization on the tasks they create.

Who it's for

Admins and RevOps who build automations. Reps receive the work.

Why it matters

Work reaches the right person at the right moment, ready to act on.

How it grew in 2025

FEB
Custom field operators, owner routing and opportunity IDs, plus filters and bulk actions on the Triggers page.
MAY
Relative dates like Today and Last 7 days, a starts-with operator, and examples for your first trigger.
AUG
Templates, snippets and AI personalization on trigger-created tasks.

How to set it up

  1. Open Triggers

As an admin, go to Administration › Workflow automations › Triggers › Add Trigger.

  2. Set the basics

Name the trigger, choose its owner and source object, and pick the event: Created, Updated, or Created or Updated.

  3. Add conditions

Build conditions with the new operators, such as greater than for numbers or relative dates.

  4. Choose the action and owner

Pick the action, such as Add to Sequence or Create Task, and who owns the work. Owner options depend on the objects involved, for example opportunity owner, account owner or prospect owner.

  5. Save

Click Save. Use Manage columns, filters and bulk actions on the Triggers page to keep the list tidy.
